Essential tools that everyone should have in their toolbag 6 February 2024

You’ve got to use the right tool for the job! That’s what they say!

Every handyman should own a toolbag — but what should be in it? We recommend that every tool bag should contain these essential items:

1. Masking Tape

Painter's tape is easy to tear, easy to remove and endlessly useful for indicating whatever you need to cut, hammer, paint, donate, refurbish or replace.

2. Hammer

While there are plenty of fancy hammers, old-school works just fine. Use the claw side to remove nails.

3. Utility Knife

Also known as a box cutter - this knife can fold out or push up.

4. Level

A level will tell you for sure if anything is level or not. You could also try a level app on your phone.

5 . Tape Measure

Measure twice, and cut once.

6 . Cordless Drill

Newer models of cordless drills are available with stud finders, making hanging or mounting projects a snap.

7. Safety Goggles

These should be non-negotiable when working on home-improvement projects especially if debris is flying around etc.

8 . Flashlight

It helps when the power goes out, of course, but a flashlight is very useful for peering into crevices.

9. Drain Snake

Run this thin plastic drain cleaning tool down your sink whenever water drains slower and before the drain gets clogged.

10 . Screwdrivers

Get a few and all types — slotted, Phillips, star, square — and you’ll be able to secure every kind of screw.

11. Pencil

Putting a pencil behind your ear to get ready to tackle that all-important project. It helps mark out and note measurements.
